Help the environment while being a part of history, at the upcoming volunteer planting event for Cumberland County Library's new rain garden! The rain garden, installed in partnership with the American Littoral Society, will help filter storm water runoff from the library property and adjacent roadways while providing vital habitat to native insects, birds, and other wildlife. All equipment will be provided. Participants should dress for the weather and wear closed-toe shoes and sun and insect protection. The Rain Garden Planting will take place on Saturday, June 18 from 10:00 am-12:00 pm, at Cumberland County Library. Teens ages 13-18 Teens interested in volunteering at the library this summer are invited to attend this meeting. We’ll be talking about upcoming events at the library and training teens on assisting with our summer reading program. Teens who attend will earn 1.5 hours of volunteer time. Join Quinn Whitesall from the American Littoral Society for an all-ages horseshoe crab lesson! Quinn will bring a horseshoe crab or two and do a deep dive into the anatomy and importance of this amazing pre-historic creature.
